THE DUTCHESS OF THE AEGEAN
Hermoupolis
The capital of Syros, an open-air museum in the heart of the Aegean Sea, has an aroma that smells like neoclassical romance.
With its narrow streets and picturesque neighbourhoods, you can follow to discover old images along with recent ones while strolling through this quaint town center where many buildings date back centuries ago- some even more impressive than others!
Hermoupolis is more than just a beautiful island capital. The Town Hall in Miaouli Square, inspired by Ernest Ziller and the palaces of Troy, provides an impressive presence while also being warmly inviting; it stands as proof that this small town can truly embrace its past with pride–and present-day greatnesses like Apollon Theater which are miniature versions of Scala di Milano. You’ll find mansions galore when walking around Vaporia district where many were built at different times throughout history but always maintain charm through their timeless looks.
Hermoupolis is the main port of the island, connected daily with the ports of Piraeus, Rafina, the Cyclades and the North Aegean Sea. The island’s airport is 3 kilometres from downtown Hermoupolis and offers direct flights to Athens.
